A Little About Ogden Utah
Ogden is a city surrounded by mountains and the Great Salt Lake and recreation abounds on mountain trails and in scenic valleys. It is full of arts, culture and entertainment!

In the early 1800s, Native Americans met trappers in the scenic Ogden Valley. Named for famed explorer Peter Skeen Ogden, the area attracted traders of all varieties. Miles Goodyear, responsible for the first white settlement in Utah, established a trading post and meeting site for weary pioneers. The east met west at Promontory Summit on May 10, 1869 for the joining of the transcontinental railroad and driving of the symbolic Golden Spike.

The roaring 20s brought excitement to Historic 25th St., where, according to legend, Al Capone met his match, declaring Ogden too wild for his taste. Prizefighter Jack Dempsey met many takers on his way to boxing fame.

On February 8, 2002, Ogden City and Weber County welcomed the world to a meeting of athletes during the XIX Olympic Winter Games. Ogden hosted what many consider the premiere event of the Games - the men's Downhill at Snowbasin. Also on the alpine speed event schedule for Snowbasin was the men's Super G and Combined as well as the women's Downhill, Super G, and Combined. The Ice Sheet, on the campus of Weber State University hosted the Winter Games newest event, curling. Both men and women competed for 12 days on Ogden ice.

Ogden is a four-season destination with ample opportunity for fun. Spring, summer and fall bring warm temperatures along with outdoor recreation.

  • 67,000 acres of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest are perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding, ATVs, camping, picnics, fishing and boating.
  • 18 scenic golf courses surround the community.
  • Stroll the Ogden River Parkway with a visit to Ogden Eccles Dinosaur Park, Lorin Farr Park and Pool, and the Pioneer Days Rodeo.
  • The Ogden and Weber rivers offer some of the best kayaking waters in the state along with a wonderful trout fishery.
  • Fort Buenaventura Park is a pleasant escape from the day's hustle and bustle. Reflect in the quiet pond, picnic under the tall trees or make a trade at the authentic trading post.

In late October, Mother Nature fills the mountains with an abundance of light, white powder and winter recreation takes center stage.

  • You can ski at Snowbasin, Powder Mountain and Wolf Mountain, just minutes from downtown.
  • You can snowmobile on hundreds of miles of groomed trails and powder fields.
  • You can snowshoe and cross-country throughout the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
  • You can helicopter and snowcat ski at Powder Mountain and Monte Cristo.
  • You can ice fish Pineview and Causey Reservoirs.
  • You can see wildlife throughout the county. Deer, Rocky Mountain Elk, Moose and Eagles are seen most often.

Throughout the year enjoy a multitude of fun attractions.

  • The restored Union Station is the railroad capital of Utah and houses four museums, an art gallery, gift shop, restaurant and the Ogden/Weber CVB visitor information center.
  • Historic 25th Street is an eclectic mix of restaurants, unique shops, antique stores and art galleries.
  • The Ogden Nature Center offers a true slice of nature.
  • Children's Treehouse Museum for a hands-on-education.
  • Aviation history at the Hill Aerospace Museum.
  • Peery's Egyptian Theater provides top performing arts.

No city is complete without annual events and Ogden is no exception. You can welcome the holiday season with the lighting of Christmas Village in late November, kick off the new year at First Night on December 31, Hof Winterfest delights all in January and the Snowbasin World Cup visits in February with a high speed run by the fastest women on skis. Look for the annual street festival in July as part of Pioneer Days and Octoberfest says goodbye to fall.

As you can see, there's lots to do and see in Ogden Utah making it a destination vacation or over night spot for all you folks wanting to see America! "When in Ogden Utah you will need to go by The Rainbow Gardens for a visit with to see all them friendly Utah folks and have a Mormon Muffin!" -Says, Caddylak Maxy.
