A Little About Diamond City Arkansas
Diamond City is in Boone County Arkansas and is about 25-30 minutes northeast of Harrison on Hwy 14. It is a peninsula on Lake Bullshoals - in fact, the highway ends just a few yards from the shore! If you're planning an extended vacation in the area, I would highly recommend setting aside a day (or two!) to spend out there. The drive is pleasant, the people are friendly, and there's plenty to do while in the area.

Diamond City has two great resturants in Diamond City - the Dairy Diner and Sleepy Cove. Sleepy Cove recent burned down, but it is quickly being rebuilt. When it reopens, I highly recommend the “Cheesy Beef”. Mmm! There's a new shop in town called Pizza and Ice Cream Land, my mom tells me they have great banana splits.

There are quite a few hotels and cabins in Diamond City. Each of the properties offer a different atmosphere, most are right on the lake. We made a pit stop at the last resort before reaching the lake - Diamond City Lakeside Resort. It has new owners that have really done a fabulous job remodeling. Each of the rooms are themed, have new beds with beautiful linens, and offer up a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Nightly rentals are $45 and up. The office has a large deck off the back with a view of the lake, it's a great spot to hang out and relax. They will be opening up a coffee shop in time for Memorial Day that will serve light snacks as well. Live bands will play on Friday and Saturday nights.

If golf is your forte, the Diamond Hills Country Club offers a full course, clubhouse, and swimming pool. It's located right on the edge of town, you can't miss it!

For those of you who love the outdoors, there's plenty to hike and see in Diamond City. A local favorite is Devil's Backbone. To get there, you'll go through town and hang a right on Cove Drive (the second to last road before the park entrance), take a left on Coleman, then a right on Downing, and stay straight. It's all dirt road and a little rough once you get there. Devil's Backbone is a tall bluff. A little ways down it meets up with the shoreline. You can dive off this bluff, but I wouldn't recommend it. There's a large X painted on the top rock - if you feel the urge to jump, do it from the X or you will hit the bluffs below. Like I said, though, I wouldn't recommend it! Also, there is a great new trails park they've set up by the community center complete with a playground. I did get a chance to hike part of it, the scenery is beautiful. There are benches throughout and a pavilion.

The highway leads right into a corp of engineers park on Lake Bullshoals. It is a very clean, large park with camping spots w/hookups for RVs, showers, a marina, playground, pavilions, and large swimming area. Camping spots range from right on the lake shore, up on a bluff overlooking the lake, to farther inland. The park stays full throughout the summer, it's an excellent place for families to spend the day or night. Oh, I almost forgot about the fishing! Lake Bullshoals is a fishing hot spot. There are multiple launch sites and numerous coves to spend the afternoon. There is a large fireworks display at the lake on the Fourth of July.

Diamond City in Three Words: Relaxing, Affordable, Beautiful

History of Diamond City

In 1952, the White River was dammed at a place called Bull Shoals. The lake formed by the dam was called Bull Shoals Lake and now covers many of the vales and hamlets of the first settlers. Lead Hill was moved from it's location, to the place, that is now where the State Highways of 7 and 14 cross. Fish swim where the people used to walk and ride. Because of the high bluff, Diamond City is at the old Dubuque site. For a long time, only the people living here knew of the abundance of game and the fine fishing to be had on the peninsula formed by the lake. In the 1960's, Henry Deitz saw the possibilities of developing and Diamond City came into being. Diamond City is now a town of 600 plus friendly people, guarded by the lake on three sides and Lead Hill on the fourth.

The population of the area is still not pressed together, and the local people, and those who have moved here, enjoy the feel of the freedom from the stress of the cosmopolitan areas. The air is clear, the woods muffle the sound of the light industry and traffic. Wildlife counts in the town is larger than for residents. Birds are plentiful and probaly contribute the most noise. The lake never freezes over, so the avid fisherman may always go out. All the conveniences of modern life are available without the problems that accompany them in most places.
